A screenshot-based tracker takes pictures of the screen at intervals. They show whatever was visible at that moment, which can include personal information. Clockgauge limits this: it captures only while the employee's timer runs, at random times, can blur text, notifies the employee each time and deletes screenshots automatically. It does not record keystrokes, audio or video.
What a screenshot contains
Whatever is on screen: the document, an email, a chat message. That is why proportionality matters and why a blur option and short retention are valuable.
What else is recorded
- The name of the app and the window title in use each minute.
- Counts of keyboard and mouse activity.
- Whether a video call is in progress, when that option is on.
What is not recorded
- What you type or your passwords.
- Audio or video of calls.
- Anything while the timer is stopped.
Tips for employees
Stop the timer for personal browsing or private messages. Close sensitive windows before starting. Ask your manager if anything is unclear; the consent screen lists what is recorded.
Reducing what they capture
- Turn on blur so text is unreadable.
- Take fewer screenshots per window.
- Keep them for a short time.
- Limit who can view them.
Questions people ask
Can managers see all screenshots?
Managers with the right role can. Retention limits how long they exist.
