Download Casement, open it, allow Accessibility in System Settings when the setup screen asks, then click the menu-bar icon and switch on the features you want. Snap layouts, the window switcher, Dock window lists, the drop shelf and display control are free; Chrome profile Dock icons need a licence after a 7-day trial.
Before you start
You need a Mac running macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. Casement is a universal app, signed and notarised by Apple.
Casement needs the Accessibility permission, which macOS requires for any app that moves or focuses other apps' windows. It does not need Screen Recording and does not capture the contents of your windows.
Steps
- Download Casement from the Casement page and open the downloaded file.
- Drag Casement into your Applications folder, then open it from there.
- When the setup screen asks for Accessibility, click the button that opens System Settings, Privacy & Security, Accessibility, and switch Casement on.
- Return to Casement. A small icon now appears in the menu bar. Click it to open the control panel.
- Switch on the features you want. Start with snap layouts and the window switcher; you can add the rest later.
- If you want a Dock icon for each Chrome profile, open Chrome profiles in the panel and tick the ones you use. That feature has a 7-day free trial.
Check that it worked
Drag a window toward the top of the screen. Layout choices should appear.
Hold Option and press Tab. A row of window tiles should appear.
If you ticked a Chrome profile, its icon should now be in the Dock.
If something goes wrong
- The layouts do not appear. Check that Casement is switched on in Accessibility. If it already is, switch it off and on again, then quit and reopen Casement.
- macOS tiling reacts at the same time. Turn off one of the two in System Settings or in Casement so that dragging to an edge does one thing.
- The toggle looks on but nothing works. Remove Casement from the Accessibility list, add it again and restart the app.
What to do next
Read the snap layouts and keyboard shortcuts pages, and try the snapping how-to.
Questions people ask
Is it safe to give Accessibility permission?
Accessibility lets an app see and control windows. Casement uses it only for window management, and it does not use Screen Recording.
Does Casement work on Intel Macs?
