Who regulates dealers in Ontario

OMVIC (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council) licenses and regulates dealers under the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002. The Used Car Dealers Association of Ontario (UCDA) publishes a widely used standard bill of sale.

Rules change, so confirm current requirements directly with the regulator before relying on any template.

Sales tax

Ontario uses a single harmonized sales tax (HST) that combines the federal and provincial portions, so one tax line is typical.

In Dealer Garage you name each tax and enter its rate under Deal and Taxation in Settings; the deal builder applies them after the trade-in allowance. Confirm the rates and how trade-ins are treated with your accountant or tax authority.

How it works in practice

  1. Choose your region in Settings so the right form set is used.
  2. Create the vehicle, customer and deal.
  3. Pick a form and Dealer Garage fills in the details it already has.
  4. Print, sign and file a copy with the deal. See the deal jacket checklist.

For an Ontario sale

  1. Create the deal and set the HST line.
  2. Generate the UCDA-style bill of sale.
  3. Add odometer and as-is statements as required.
  4. If financed, add the contract, security agreement and PPSA registration forms.
  5. File the jacket and the register entry.
