Budgets that warn you, and can stop the clock

Know a job is going over before the invoice does.

Short answer

A Clockgauge project budget can be in hours or in cost, for the whole project, each month or each week. It warns managers when a chosen percentage is reached and shows when it is over. You can also choose to pause tracking on the project at 100%, which stops the employees' timers on it.

Alerts

Managers see a banner on the Team page when a project is near or over budget, and can be emailed if you have set up email in the Host.

Pausing

If pausing is on, employees' timers on that project stop and they cannot start new ones on it until the budget is raised or a new period starts. This is the strictest option; many managers just prefer the warning.

An example

A 40-hour fixed-fee project is given an hours budget of 40, warning at 80%. At 32 hours a banner appears on the Team page. The manager checks with the team, agrees the remaining work and either re-scopes or raises the budget. If "pause tracking at 100%" had been on, timers on that project would have stopped at 40 hours.

Questions people ask

Does cost include only hourly staff?

Cost is calculated from hourly pay rates; people without a rate contribute hours but no cost.
