When you drag a file toward the top of the screen, Casement opens a shelf under the menu bar listing places to send it, such as AirDrop, Mail, Messages, Notes and Photos. Release the file over one and it is shared. It uses the sharing services already on your Mac and works with any file you can drag. Free.
How it works
- Start dragging a file from Finder or any app.
- Move toward the top edge. The shelf opens.
- Drop the file on a target. The usual share sheet for that service appears.
Move away without letting go and the shelf closes, so nothing is sent by accident.
What it uses
The targets are the share services macOS already provides, so what you see depends on the apps on your Mac. Casement does not upload anything itself.
Using it with snap layouts
Layouts appear when you drag a window; the shelf appears when you drag a file. They share the same upward gesture without getting in each other's way.
A worked example
You export a PDF invoice to the Desktop and want to email it. Drag the file up: the shelf opens. Drop it on Mail and a new message appears with the PDF attached. Drag a photo up and drop it on AirDrop to send it to your phone. Neither needed a right-click menu.
What it will not do
- It does not upload anything itself; it hands the file to the share service you chose.
- It cannot add services macOS does not offer. To change the list, adjust your Sharing extensions in System Settings.
- It does not appear when you drag windows; that gesture opens snap layouts instead.
Troubleshooting
- If a target is missing, enable it under System Settings, Privacy & Security, Extensions, Sharing.
- If the shelf never opens, make sure you drag a file rather than selected text, and that Accessibility is allowed.
- If it closes immediately, you moved away from the top edge before releasing.
Questions people ask
Can I add more targets?
It lists what macOS offers as share services. Apps that add a share extension appear automatically.
Does the file leave my Mac?
Only if you drop it on a target that sends it somewhere, such as AirDrop or Mail.
